Aoi Aihara was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. As a young dancer, she performed with a professional Japanese ballet company “松山バレエ団” (Matsuyama Ballet-dan) from age 9 to 12. After high school, she moved to California to study at Orange Coast College and was awarded 5 dance scholarships during her time there. Aoi graduated from UC Irvine in 2020, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in dance.
“TOSCA -living for love, dying for dignity” was created by Italian choreographer Francesco Core using music from Puccini’s Opera Tosca. She expresses her grief to God, asking why she’s having such a difficult ending to her life, despite all of the good she’s done. She feels destroyed and is fighting for her dignity. The strong, independent, and selfless woman lived her entire life for love, up through the very end, where she took her own life for love.
