Dhoon Dance – Sourabhi Sen

Sourabhi Sen

I am an IT professional, dance instructor, and  Kathak dancer. I’ve trained with Anjani Ambegaokar, Dr. Tina Tambe, Piyali Mukherjee, Sudeshna Ghosh, and attended workshops with Kathak luminaries Birju Maharaj, Saswati Sen, and Geetanjali Lal. I have almost 30 years of combined experience performing, teaching, and directing classical and contemporary dance in India, Greece, and the US. I began performing at a young age and absorbed the beauty of Kathak. Growing up in India, I was inspired by the rich and diverse Indian dance styles and aspired to teach them, while also observed poverty all around me. To address the impact of poverty on access to performing arts, I aimed to engage underprivileged communities via dance. I began teaching online dancing during COVID to give friends an opportunity to engage, while also creating initiatives for kids to help underserved communities.
Today, Dhoon Dance provides structured sessions and recitals to many students in SoCal. In addition to performance platforms and charity efforts, I provide dance certificates under UNESCO’s dance council and educate students on the rich heritage of Indian arts. At the San Pedro Festival of Arts, I will present a traditional Kathak solo.
