The Firuze Dance Company, under the direction of Robyn Friend, Ph.D., specializes in historical, modern, and regional dances of Iran and Central Asia. Many of the company members are professional dancers with many years of experience; others are members of the local Iranian community. The company’s costumes have been made in Central Asia, or are careful reproductions designed by Dr. Friend, and made by local costumers.
Robyn Friend, Ph.D. is a scholar of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and Balkan dance, folklore, ethnology, and linguistics.
Robyn is the principal performer and teacher of Qajar-style (19th century to early 20th century) Persian dancing in the United States and Europe, with hundreds of performances and workshops to her credit. She is in demand as a teacher of Persian traditional dancing all over the world.
