Jazz Spectrum Dance Company

Originally founded in 1982 by female powerhouse Christine Baltes (1951-2018), Jazz Spectrum Dance Company (JSDC) is known for its versatility, style, and precision. Throughout Ms. Baltes’s career, she crafted countless works of choreographic art and built a foundational technique that is not only necessary in the training of dancers today but needed for the historical legacy and preservation of jazz dance. Her work continues to live on thru public classes, performances, and educational outreach led by current Artistic Director Janell Burgess.

Rooted deeply classical in technique, JSDC is also known for having a “sensuous side” and performing with “great clarity” (LA Dance Chronicle). The company has produced concerts throughout the United States and presented work at festivals & concerts including LA Dance Invitational, Jazz Dance World Congress, SoCal Dance Invitational, Orange County Dance Festival (OCDF), Jazz Dance LA, Pushfest Global, Inland Empire Dance Festival (IEDF), Newport Beach Film Festival, and many more. In 2020 JSDC created their firstdance for film piece entitled “Chameleon” and has screened at over 10 festivals throughout 2021 winning both “Best Original Score” and “Best Choreography”.

Currently JSDC offers open company classes at their home studio in Lake Forest, CA Spectrum Dance Center. It is the mission of Jazz Spectrum Dance Company to promote, educate, and preserve the art of Jazz Dance.
