Director: Katerina Tomás
Flamenco dancer and Artistic Director of Mojácar Flamenco, Katerina Tomás studied flamenco with the renowned Spanish Gypsy dancer, Rosa Montoya. She taught flamenco at UC Irvine, UCLA, Orange Coast College, Cypress College, LACC, and currently teaches at Pointe by Pointe Dance Studio. She holds the M.A. in Dance from UCLA.
She received six grants from the Spanish Ministry of Culture for performance, choreography and research. She received the L.A. Treasures Award in 2004 for the flamenco music and dance concert “Cantan los Fuegos – the fires sing – an evening celebrating the music and poetry of Manuel de Falla and Federico García Lorca.”
With flamenco guitarist Stephen Dick she toured the U.S. and Canada, performed in Mojácar and Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, and was featured on Spanish television at the Sur Jerez Flamenco Competition where the artists received international recognition for their recording, “Naranjas Amargas.” Their 2015-2016 project “Nana del Caballo Grande,” fuses flamenco, classical Spanish, and modern music and dance.
