San Pedro City Ballet was established in 1994 by nationally recognized dancers and teachers, Cynthia and Patrick David Bradley, as a not-for-profit dance company serving greater Los Angeles. It is home to American Ballet Theatre superstar Misty Copeland, who was discovered by the Bradleys at age 13. The company performs The Nutcracker annually at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro as well as produces original modern works for a variety of venues throughout Southern California
The Menaced Assassin choreographed by Patrick David Bradley, is a modern work in two sections based on a painting of the same name by the Surrealist painter René Magritte. It is a work that explores the changing relationship between the assassin and the victim, culminating in the eventual death of the assassin. The music in the first section is a sparse solo piano composition by Harold Budd which is juxtaposed against a rich, dark waltz by Dimitri Shostakovich in the second section.
